Classes and Seminars

Susie-Melissa is in great demand as an instructor, and presently teaches classes in calligraphy through Southern Methodist University. We offer Beginning Calligraphy and Intermediate Calligraphy through Southern Methodist University Informal Education Courses. You may register online at www.smu.edu or call us at (214) 522-4731. In addition, Susie-Melissa regulary conducts onsite seminars at her studio in Dallas, Texas. Script, Illumination, Portfolio, and Private Lessons are offered in the studio. BEGINNING CALLIGRAPHY

This is a six week course that meets every Monday evening from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. You may register online at www.smu.edu. Calligraphy supplies for this class are available for purchase from Susie-Melissa at Calligraphic Arts Design Studio.We encourage you to purchase your supply kit in advance. You will be introduced to five different lettering styles:

Gothic · Uncial · Roundhand · Italic · Old English

INTERMEDIATE CALLIGRAPHY

Follows the Beginner Class and is six weeks in length. The class covers different projects such as a spiral, note pad layout, quotes and sayings, invitations, envelopes, place cards, menus, and a class certificate. Classes are from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. on Monday evenings. Paper products may be purchased from Susie-Melissa by calling 214.522.4731. These may also be purchased the first night of class. SCRIPT

We offer two classes for Script: Lower Case and Upper Case. Each class is two hours. The cost includes calligraphy supplies and numerous handouts from priceless and vintage works of the masters. Materials you purchase for Lower Case will serve for both classes. In the first class, students learn Lower Case Script alphabet and the skills for immediate application. The Upper Case Script is available at a reduced rate for those who complete the Lower Case Class.

ILLUMINATION SEMINAR

You will learn the art of embellishing your own ornamental letters with designs. Step-by-step instruction on the use of gold, silver, bronze, and colors. The term "Illuminated" is of medieval origin, meaning that which is lighted with colored decoration. Illuminating allows great freedom in design. This full day seminar will introduce the student to the basic design concept and techniques of ornamental letters. Through the undertaking of a specific project, each person will experience working with 23k gold, silver, and bronze leaf. This rare and beautiful art form is in great demand by private and corporate clients. This is one of our most popular classes. Seating is LIMITED!

PORTFOLIO I

Designed for those interested in calligraphy as a profession. Through step-by-step instruction, each student will design and complete an individual portfolio...ready for presentation. The focus is on projects currently in great demand. You will learn business concepts and strategies and obtain valuable insight as you plan and launch your own hand lettering business. Topics are:
